PROJECT NOTES: Hunt Utilities began work on a 17,000 square foot manufacturing center in early 2006 in Pine River, MN The facility is designed to support multiple uses including R & D on the many projects Hunt Utility Group (HUG) is involved in, as well as a new technology production facility for a 3D printing machine.
Doug Swanson, Project Superintendent for Riverwood Truss and Lumber Company made contact with Brock White at the 2006 Energy Expo in Duluth to look for green roof systems. After consultation withDoug Swanson and Paul Hunt from Hunt Utilities Group it was decided to use the Carlisle CCW Green Roof Systems. Chris Kage from CCW was instrumental in the training and support in the selection and installation of the roof system.
The roof system consists of 2 layers of 3/4” untreated T & G plywood. A hot-applied layer of CCW-500R was applied, and then a 90 mill layer of 711-90 sheet reinforced grid was embedded in the CCW-500R. An additional coating of the hot applied CCW-500R was applied to a total thickness of 215 mills. The RMB 400 Root Barrier was applied, then the CCW-Protection Board HS.
Then the CCW-300HV water retention-moisture mat was applied along with CCW MiraDRAIN
GR9200 water retention drainage composite was applied as a top layer upon which the 6” of top soil was loaded. The roof itself is very interesting because of its green building capabilities, but the real story is the heat/cooling they are going to capture from it, along with the food they can grow and experimentation of new plants native and non native.
