Duluth Road Patching Project

The project was performed by the City of Duluth road maintenance crew. They used Crafco Mastic 1 as they had been using numerous other conventional methods to make repairs with higher than expected failure rates of the repairs.
Mastic 1 is designed to be a 5 year repair in most applications. The key to a successful repair with Mastic 1 is a clean, dry, and sound substrate. Mastic 1 also works very well around manholes and bridge approaches as it levels out the transition and will last longer than spray patching or hand applied hot mix.
Another application for Mastic 1 is cupped or tented joints in the road ways that are greater than 1-1/2” in width. The application process again requires to have the joint clean and dry. Mastic 1 gets poured in at 400 degrees as the design includes rubber which includes aggregate, flows down into the open crack to help reinforce the base and level off the joint for ride quality. This is also designed to be a 5 year repair.
