35W & Cliff Road Flood Control

A low lying stretch of I-35W is prone to annual flooding from the Minnesota River. MnDOT installed 2,000 feet of HESCO baskets along the east side of northbound I-35W to alleviate this potential problem. Black poly was placed on the flood side of the baskets to assist in containing the water. MnDOT choose initially to dump the sand fill directly from the cement trucks chute (tight constraints with two lanes closed), but found this to be extremely slow. A conveyor was then tried, then a small skid loader was used.
