Minnesota Air National Guard Holman Field
St. Paul, MN
BW PRODUCTS USED:
The St. Paul Airport has flooded in previous years. 2011 presented a high percentage chance of the same. The goal was to protect the Main Office Building. Damage was $1 million dollars from the last flood. The entire building was gutted, including the carpeting, to minimize potential damage.
HESCO baskets were then placed on the perimeter of the building for extra insurance. The drop in elevation from the North end to the South end is 2’. The South end was done first, in a pyramid shape of two rows on the bottom with another row on top. Clear poly was placed and sandbagged at the base of the outside panels, then draped over the top of the assembly.
Positive comments were made by Guard personnel about the quick installation of the baskets when compared to previous installations of sand bags. A total of 680 units were purchased. The initial projected flood elevation resulted in a design that ultimately could go to a three basket high pyramid.
